I saw a swap for 'rainbow zentangles at swap-bot.com and followed the links for more info. A 'zentangle' is the term coined by this website for this very relaxing form of doodling/artwork. Though the website (www.zentangle.com) described the process as more abstract, without a specific form in mind, I couldn't help it, the ones I made for the swap are in shapes, such as cat, dragon, koi, owl, etc.! But they were fun to do, though....
In my ATC phase, I am trying out different things, and I found I like creating 'mola' style pictures for my ATCs. In case you're not sure what a mola is, it's a form of south american embroidery/patchwork, and I think it translates well to a small artist trading card -- it definitely is more of a challenge, being on a smaller scale.
Artist trading cards are a great way to get a new bust of creativity....to get a new perspective, I've joined some groups that swap, trade and create ATCs for the coming year. With their small size (they must be 2.5"x3.5"), they aren't an overwhelming project, but they sure can leave your worktable a crazy mess! First you'll start out with your card blank, then as you work on it, you'll think -- I need some paint, I need some glitter, I need some tape, and believe me all these supplies will just pile up in front of you, because you can't break your creative spell just to keep things tidy!
I have my collection of ATCs for trading at:
